NAGPUR: Bengaluru-based SML claims to have developed an Indian version of its artificial intelligence (AI)-powered chatbox tool Hanooman and is set to launch the advanced version next month. Speaking to TOI on the sidelines of the Manthan-AI summit at IIM Nagpur, company founder Vishnu Vardhan said the first version was text-enabled and was launched in May this year. A multi-modal version of Hanooman that will be available in 100 different languages will be launched in August, he said. These will include foreign languages ranging from Arabic to Portuguese, as well as 12 Indian languages, he said. The company is looking to invest in the venture. There is a vast perspective for revenue generation in the AI business, so investments by companies are needed to sustain the venture till that time. While not disclosing the initial capital investment amount, he said the company is actively raising funds. The new version will go beyond text to also accommodate photos, videos and even voice, he said. Apart from simple functions like writing letters, Hanooman can also write software code, Vardhan said. This is expected to change the dynamics of the software industry. The advantage is that the software code is available in languages other than English, Vardhan said. This is expected to give it an edge over other products in its category. He claimed that Hanuman can go beyond transliteration and derive the exact meaning and usage of any language. Many AI tools translate words directly, which often results in incorrect meanings. But Hanuman can translate phrases and even typical words in each language to their exact meaning. Vardhan claimed that made-in-India AI tools can be developed at one-tenth of the cost incurred by foreign companies. He said the current version has millions of downloads. It has been found that there has been a significant number of downloads by overseas Indians. The new version will also be available for free download. But the company also wants to monetize the enterprise version of the AI, Vardhan said. SML is currently targeting Indian users before it is accepted worldwide, Vardhan said.
