Adobe today debuted several new AI features for Premiere Pro, software designed for professional video editing. Adobe's Premiere Pro will come with powerful editing features powered by generative AI that will help video editors do more with less.
The Generative Extend feature lets Premiere Pro add frames to lengthen video clips, extending scenes for well-timed edits and smooth transitions.
Objects in the video can also be added or removed through smart selection and tracking tools. Adobe says video editors can remove unnecessary items, change actors' wardrobes, and add set decorations such as paintings on walls or plants on desks.
Perhaps the most interesting new feature is the option to create new video footage directly within Premiere Pro using the text-to-video conversion feature. Users can enter text into prompts, upload images to create videos, and use the resulting clips for B-roll, storyboard creation, and more.
Adobe plans to introduce these generative AI tools in the second half of 2024.
Apple has its own professional video editing software, Final Cut Pro. Final Cut Pro is a competitor to Premiere Pro and is currently lacking in the AI department. Apple hasn't announced his AI features for Final Cut Pro, but it's rumored that his AI features will be coming to multiple apps in iOS 18 and macOS 15, so perhaps some will be coming to Final Cut Pro. New AI features may be added.
