New York (CNN) Photoshop looks a little different.

Adobe announced on Tuesday that it is building an AI-powered image generator into Photoshop with the goal of “dramatically accelerating” the way users edit photos.

This tool called Firefly allows users to add or remove elements. Adobe says it can be created from an image using only text prompts. It can also automatically match the lighting and style of existing images, the company said.

Available now in the new Photoshop beta app. The company plans to roll out the product to all Photoshop customers by the end of the year.

Adobe’s move follows recent emergence of AI tools that can generate compelling text and images in response to user prompts, potentially changing the way people work, create and communicate. is hidden.

”[N]We are entering a new era of AI, and the emergence of generative models presents new opportunities to take image processing power to another level,” said Pam Clark, vice president of product management and product strategy at Photoshop. said in a blog post. Over the past few months, we’ve integrated this exciting new technology into Photoshop, taking a big step towards a more natural, intuitive and enjoyable way to work. ”

Firefly was announced as a web-only beta at the Adobe Summit in March. It was trained using Adobe’s own stock image collection and publicly available assets. Adobe called the tool one of his most successful betas to date, with over 70 million images created in his first month.

By relying on its own image collection and publicly available media, Adobe may be able to avoid the backlash faced by other AI image generation tools for using vast amounts of online content as training. .

In January, Getty Images sued Stability AI, the developer of the popular AI art tool Stable Diffusion, for alleged copyright infringement. Getty says Stability AI copied and processed millions of images without proper licensing.

Stability filed a motion to dismiss the lawsuit earlier this month.
