Generate human-like text and speech
(Web Desk) – TikTok is developing a new AI chatbot called “Genie” for its Western users. The news comes after TikTok recently filed for a trademark in the United States.
Genie will do more than just answer questions: Semafor reports that the chatbot will allow users to interact directly within the video stream, providing instant support and potentially unlocking new features.
“In the US in May, the viral video app applied to trademark the name 'Genie' for its AI chatbot software. The software has the ability to simulate conversations, facilitate human-AI interaction and communication, and generate human-like conversations and texts,” Semaphore said.
This suggests a more integrated and interactive experience for TikTok users, and comes after the company conducted its first experiment in the Philippines with a search-focused chatbot called “Tako.”
The new chatbot is expected to be more advanced, integrating features such as TikTok's generated AI search, currently available on Douyin (China's TikTok), which will help users find content both within and outside the app.
The updated chatbot is also expected to incorporate other evolving AI features, such as building a virtual livestreamer and using TikTok's “StreamVoice” system, which can create a realistic voice based on a short voice sample.
TikTok's AI music generation and text-to-video creation tools it's developing could also be integrated into the chatbot.
Unlike Meta's AI assistant, which focuses on text summarization across platforms, TikTok's approach seems more focused on helping users discover and take advantage of the app's various features.
This could lead to a more practical and engaging experience for TikTok users.
