The team “Aiming to Ensure Cybersecurity” won the Excellence Award.
In the face of rapidly evolving cyber threats, apart from new AI tools for cybersecurity, data-driven analytics and prediction of potential cyberattack targets and methods can help mitigate the impact of cybersecurity incidents.
Trend Micro provided a challenge for the cybersecurity category of the AI Wave: Taiwan Generative AI Applications Hackathon, held by DIGITIMES on May 18-19, 2024, asking participating teams to use cyber threat data and generative AI to strengthen corporate cybersecurity. Trend Micro also provided the resources and data for the teams to use.
The “Ensuring Cybersecurity” team, consisting of Shi Junsheng from the Department of Computer Science and Information Engineering, National Yilan University, and Lo Weizhi from the Department of Computer Science and Information Engineering, National Taiwan Normal University, harnessed the power of generative AI to build an automated analyzer and chatbot that provides cyber threat intelligence summaries, predicts potential cyber attacks, and extracts data from NoSQL databases. The team stood out from a strong field of competitors and was unanimously voted an Honorable Mention by the judges.
With cyber threats taking on increasingly diverse forms, the team believes that if cybersecurity teams can use automated tools to organize past, present and future cyber threat data and predict cyber attacks, they will not only be able to stay ahead of global cybersecurity trends, but also work much more efficiently. Individual and corporate users are exposed to cyber threats and need such tools to ensure their cybersecurity.
Aspiring to Ensure Cybersecurity designed an automation tool to meet the needs of both experts and ordinary users, which led them to use chatbots to provide an automation service in response to cybersecurity incidents, helping users make the right decisions as quickly as possible.
As part of their efforts to protect their critical data, businesses and individual users typically employ some form of cybersecurity mechanism, but only a few can understand the jargon of cybersecurity tools.
Aspiring to Ensure Cybersecurity has developed an automated tool that provides security information and event management (SIEM) teams with the intelligence summaries they need, but more importantly, empowers everyday users to quickly decipher cybersecurity jargon and take appropriate action against any type of cyber threat, minimizing their potential impact.
The team showed great interest in the cybersecurity industry and appreciated the opportunity to learn about generative AI and large-scale language models (LLMs) through the Amazon Web Services (AWS) workshop. Both team members plan to pursue certifications in cybersecurity, AI, and ML and aspire to a career in the cybersecurity industry.
