The integration will enable SAP customers to accelerate their adoption of Generative AI and modernize critical business processes based on SAP solutions, according to a statement from the German software company. SAP and AWS also plan to further leverage Bedrock capabilities in the Generative AI hub to embed further AI capabilities within SAP's portfolio of cloud solutions and applications, including financials and product lifecycle management.
SAP Optimizes HANA Cloud for AWS Chips
SAP also announced that it will optimize its HANA Cloud for use with AWS Graviton3 chips. With compatible Graviton3-based Amazon Elastic Compute Cloud (EC2) instances, the company has already achieved up to 30% increased compute performance for analytics workloads and an estimated 45% reduction in CO2 emissions.
Going forward, SAP and AWS will collaborate on the next generation of Graviton4 for SAP HANA Cloud and other SAP applications to further improve the performance and efficiency of those applications. SAP also plans to use AWS Trainium and AWS Inferentia chips, designed specifically for AI and machine learning (ML) workloads, to train and deploy future SAP Business AI services.
Amazon Kuiper migrates to S/4HANA
In addition to the expanded AI partnership, Amazon is looking to increase its reliance on SAP in other areas. Various Amazon subsidiaries, including Twitch, Zappos.com, and Zoox, already run SAP software on AWS, and now Kuiper's broadband satellite network subsidiary, Kuiper Systems, will follow suit. Also known as Project Kuiper, the company plans to launch about 3,500 satellites into low earth orbit. The German software company has said it will use Rise with SAP to support complex supply chain and manufacturing processes.
