Anthropic announced Wednesday its first enterprise product and free iPhone app.
The generative artificial intelligence startup Claude is one of the chatbots to explode in popularity over the past year, along with OpenAI's ChatGPT and Google's Gemini. Founded by former OpenAI research executives, Anthropic has backers including Google, Salesforce, and Amazon, and has closed five different funding deals totaling about $7.3 billion in the past year.
The new enterprise plan, dubbed Teams, has been in development for the past few quarters and has been beta-tested with 30 to 50 customers in industries including technology, financial services, legal services, and healthcare. said Anthropic co-founder Daniela Amodei. He added in an interview with CNBC that the idea for the service came in part from many of his same customers seeking dedicated enterprise products.
“A lot of what we're hearing from enterprise companies is that it seems like people are already using Claude in the office,” Amodei said.
The Team plan provides access to all three of Anthropic's latest Claude models and offers increased usage limits, administrative tools, billing management, and a longer “context window.” This means businesses can have “multi-step conversations” and upload. Anthropic says it needs to process long documents such as research papers and legal contracts. Other features coming soon include “citations from trusted sources to verify AI-generated claims,” according to the release.
Team services cost $30 per user per month when billed monthly. At least he needs 5 users.
Anthropic's first iOS app is free to users on all plans and will be available starting Wednesday. It offers syncing with web chat and the ability to upload photos and files from your smartphone.
They also plan to release an Android app. “We actually just hired our first Android engineer, so we're actively working on developing Android apps,” Amodei told CNBC, adding that the engineer will start next week.
News of the Team plan and iOS app comes more than a month after Anthropic debuted Claude 3, a suite of AI models that the company claims is the fastest and most powerful ever. The new tools are called Claude 3 Opus, Sonnet, and Haiku.
The company says the Claude 3 Opus, the most capable of its new models, outperformed OpenAI's GPT-4 and Google's Gemini Ultra in industry benchmark tests including undergraduate knowledge, graduate level reasoning, and basic mathematics. . This is also the first time Anthropic offers multimodal support. Users can upload photos, graphs, documents, and other types of unstructured data for analysis and answers.
Other models, Sonnet and Haiku, are more compact and less expensive than Opus. The company declined to say how long it took to train Claude 3 or how much it cost, but said companies like Airtable and Asana helped A/B test the model. Anthropic confirmed in a release Wednesday that other current clients using Claude currently include Pfizer, Asana, Zoom, Perplexity AI, Bridgewater Associates, and more.

Claude 3 can summarize up to about 150,000 words, or a significant amount of books, which is in the length range of Moby Dick or Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows. Previous versions could only summarize 75,000 words. Users can enter large data sets and ask for summaries in the form of notes, letters, or stories. In contrast, ChatGPT can process around 3,000 words.
OpenAI came under fire in January for its enterprise services after it quietly lifted a ban on military use of ChatGPT and other artificial intelligence tools. The policy still specifies that users may not “use our services for the purpose of harming themselves or others,” including “developing or using weapons.” Before the change, OpenAI's policy page stated that the company would not allow its models to be used in “activities with a high risk of physical harm, such as weapons development.” [and] military and war. ”
Anthropic's position on military use of Claude is similar to OpenAI's latest policy.
