On the heels of Nvidia’s impressive earnings report and ensuing share price rally, the company’s CEO Jensen Huang predicts the world is entering a “new computing era.”

Anyone can become a programmer just by talking to a computer and realize the desired functions.

Programmers no longer have to write lines of code that only display the dreaded “failed to compile” because of a missing semicolon.

How does this work? Generative artificial intelligence, Huang said during a keynote address at the Computex Forum in Taiwan on Monday.

In his first public keynote since the pandemic, Huang introduced a new AI supercomputer platform called DGX GH200 aimed at building generative AI models.

Generative AI is a type of artificial intelligence technology that can generate different types of content such as text, images, speech, and synthetic data.

“This computer will try to make sense of you, regardless of how you program it, because it has an incredibly large language model capability. The programming barrier is incredibly low,” Huang said.

“We have closed the digital divide. Everyone is a programmer. All we have to do is tell the computer something.”

Nvidia says that as individuals and businesses create new apps and leverage generative AI in the process, it is “the most important computing platform of our generation.”

Each era of computing has allowed us to do things that were not possible before.

Creative professionals can create images with simple text prompts, while programmers can accelerate their application development and debugging efforts, the company said. Even an architect can generate a 3D model from a 2D floor plan.

“Every time the computing era comes, we’re able to do things that weren’t possible before,” Huang said, adding, “Artificial intelligence definitely qualifies.”

He explained that this era of computing is “special in some ways.”

The CEO said generative AI can understand information beyond text and numbers. “We can now understand multimodality. This is why this computing revolution can impact every industry,” he added.

Unlike traditional computer application development models, where new applications and new hardware are required to keep up with advances such as AI, generative AI not only impacts new applications, but also enhances old ones. Huang said it can.

“Thanks to AI, every application that exists is going to be better. AI can make old applications successful, and new applications will emerge. That’s why we’re growing so fast.”
