Anna Pylyeva, a machine learning engineer with over 9 years of experience, created the SQLGuru application to help you practice with real-world tasks.
“There weren’t enough apps to practice SQL with real business cases, so we were able to choose a topic for training with a nice interface and gamification to avoid getting bored. To be more precise, there weren’t enough apps for our students, so we decided to create one for them and for everyone,” Hanna Pireva, CEO and founder of Data Loves Academy, writes on LinkedIn.
SQLGuru is a web application for practicing SQL that runs on your desktop and smartphone and offers a gamified learning format similar to Duolingo.

The service database contains 80 practical tasks, divided into three levels of complexity and covering different business domains. Users can individually select specific SQL topics for training or generate new tasks for their own queries.
The real cases are based on the real experience of interviews with the authors and their mentees and on the analysis of complex topics that most often cause difficulties for students.
To maintain regular motivation, the application implements game mechanics: a continuous sequence of classes and a visual heatmap of daily activities.

The app has a premium plan. This allows you to use an AI tutor that provides detailed analysis of errors in simple language, provides smart tips for specific queries, and reviews solutions.
The development itself lasted two months, but during this time the author only exceeded Claude Max’s limits once. All new reviews in the application are automatically collected every day and quickly processed with our team of AI agents.
Future plans for the platform include adding statistics and metrics questions for more comprehensive preparation for data interviews, launching a mock interview simulator, and integrating a resume optimization tool that will allow Anna to expand the experience of reviewing hundreds of profiles and automatically provide personalized advice.
