I use Gemini on my phone for everything from general assistant help and smart home control to creating generative AI. This app tries to be a jack-of-all-trades that lets you create text, images, audio, and video from simple prompts. Gemini Omni is Google’s latest video generation tool, announced at Google I/O 2026 and bundled with June’s Pixel Drop.
Gemini Omni’s calling cards are conversation prompts. Just as Nano Banana can generate images from simple input, Google wants to be able to do the same with Gemini Omni. I tried it on a Pixel 10 Pro, and the experience felt much more polished than any Veo model. I don’t often generate AI videos, but if I do, I’ll be using Gemini Omni from now on. There is also this method.
Gemini Omni is a new model designed for video creation
When you open the Gemini app and tap the model picker, you won’t see Gemini Omni. It has 3.1 Flash-Lite, 3.5 Flash, and 3.1 Pro (availability depends on your Google AI subscription), but not Gemini Omni. This is because Gemini Omni is designed specifically for video. In fact, Google’s Gemini Omni landing page says you should “think like a Nano Banana for video.”
The model used in the Gemini app is called Gemini Omni Flash and is also available in Google Flow and YouTube Shorts. For now, Gemini Omni is focused entirely on video, but will eventually support image and audio output as well. The idea is that Gemini Omni will one day be able to “create something from any input,” which is a lofty goal. Google says this will happen “over time,” but you can start using Omni for your videos today.
Another strange thing about Gemini Omni is that even though it’s highlighted as a June Pixel Drop feature, it’s available on any smartphone. Gemini Omni is not exclusive to Google Pixel. Limited by Google AI subscription status. There is also a free version with strict rate limits, but more availability is reserved for Google AI Plus, Google AI Pro, and Google AI Ultra subscribers.
This is good news for those who don’t have a Pixel. Anyone can try it out on the Gemini app or on the web.
How to create videos with AI using Gemini Omni
Gemini Omni is designed to support multiple inputs and conversational prompts. That means anyone can use it. Here’s how to get started:
1. Open. gemini app.
2. Tap. + Press the button to select movie.
3. The Gemini Omni prompt box will now appear. Tap. bottom left button Upload a photo or video as part of the prompt or bottom right button choose one landscape or portrait aspect ratio.
4. Next, come up with a text prompt. you can Please enter the prompt or microphone button to Record an audio snippet as part of the prompt.
5. Tap. send arrow Click to send the prompt to Gemini Omni.
6. hang on to generate the video. You may see the following message: “Generating the video. This may take a few minutes, so please check back when the video is ready.
7. Once your video is ready, share Click the button to create a public link. or 3 button menu and select save video Click to download it to your device.

You have now created your first video using Gemini Omni. Remember, you can use any combination of text, images, audio, or video to inform your Gemini Omni prompts.
If you don’t know where to start, tap on one of the suggestions on the Gemini Omni page. It will tell you exactly what you need to produce the video. for example, talking pets You’ll see a suggestion asking for a photo of your pet to customize the output.
Should I use Veo or Gemini Omni for video?
Gemini Omni replaces the Veo model in the Gemini app, but you can still find the Veo model in other Google services. I’ve used both and would vote for the Gemini Omni. Omni has extensive support for input and easy-to-understand suggestions, so you don’t need much skill to create fun AI videos.
I made a video of my seafood dinner coming to life and jumping off the plate, and the Gemini Omni did the job. I don’t know how often I’ll use Omni to generate videos using AI, but I know it depends on the job.
