Manchester City star Erling Haaland left fans speechless by showing off his Mandarin skills in a new advertising campaign for Chinese herbal tea brand Wallowy, with many viewers initially believing the video was generated by AI.

The Norwegian striker has appeared in several advertisements for the brand, speaking Chinese in several sections. One video shows him getting into bizarre situations, such as setting himself on fire at a barbecue or watching a game with friends, all set to a remix of his signature song based on German pop group Genghis Khan’s Moskau. In another video, he says in Mandarin: “Hello everyone. I’m Erling Haaland, Wallowy’s global ambassador,” before switching to English and ending with the catchphrase: “Beat the heat and drink Wallowy.”

Wallowy later shared behind-the-scenes footage on their official Instagram account, and fans expressed surprise that the ad was real. Comments include “This is PEAK,” “I thought this was AI,” “My buddy almost went out of character,” and “The king of multiple languages.”

Haaland is already fluent in Norwegian and English, from his time at Red Bull Salzburg and Borussia Dortmund, and also speaks German. This advertising campaign preceded his first World Cup campaign.
