Focus on field sales

Sanofi selected Snowflake for its AI-driven drug development work centered around a new AI agent for the pharmaceutical company’s field sales teams.

The project includes the launch of Concierge for Field, a tool built on Snowflake Cortex AI to help sales reps prepare for visits with doctors and other healthcare providers. The system generates pre-call plans in seconds, highlights prioritized doctors by specialty and prescription history, shows past interactions, and can email plans.

The implementation is part of a broader effort by the French pharmaceutical group to leverage AI across research and development, procurement, IT, human resources and commercial operations. Sanofi is consolidating data into a single foundation intended to support these systems.

The research team also aims to use Snowflake to process real-world clinical data at scale to speed up analysis used for drug development decision-making.

The field sales application is the clearest public example so far of a broader change in how Sanofi handles internal data and software. Previous investments resulted in the creation of thousands of dashboards, with much of the underlying data underutilized.

To address this, Sanofi has been working with Elementum, a partner focused on AI workflows, alongside Snowflake’s Cortex AI tools, including Snowflake CoWork. These workflows run directly on Snowflake, rather than through older software systems that require data to be moved to and from separate applications.

This approach reflects a broader trend in the pharmaceutical industry, where companies are applying AI to large-scale storage of research, manufacturing, and commercial data while dealing with fragmented systems built over many years. Pharmaceutical companies claim that having data in one place reduces analysis delays and supports faster operational decision-making.

Snowflake said its forward deployment engineers are working with Sanofi’s data and engineering teams on the build. This group includes AI engineers, researchers, full stack and data engineers, data professionals, industry specialists, and AI product managers.

AI at scale

For Sanofi, this initiative ties in with broader ambitions to use AI at scale across the business. The company described the initiative as a new operating model that more closely connects research, manufacturing and commercial functions through shared data.

“For years, we’ve built complex pipelines to move data in and out of expensive software just to access our data,” said Emmanuel Frenehardt, Sanofi’s chief digital officer.

“Thanks to Snowflake and Elementum, we have a clear path forward. We are building AI directly on our data and reinventing the way our company operates, from R&D to manufacturing to commerce, making Sanofi the first biopharmaceutical to leverage AI at scale,” Frenehard added.

Snowflake presented the Sanofi deal as evidence that pharmaceutical companies are moving beyond pilot projects toward a more embedded use of AI in daily operations. In this case, the use of AI-generated physician briefings by commercial teams will occur alongside a broader push into clinical data research and internal business functions.

Sanofi is one of the world’s largest biopharmaceutical companies, and using Snowflake has given the data software provider a prominent customer example in the healthcare and life sciences space. Snowflake says more than 13,900 customers around the world use its platform.
