Complaints generated by AI — what does it mean for businesses?

AI For Business

AI is now a part of everyday life and is being integrated into more and more devices and applications. DFA Law’s employment department has been noticing an uptick in employee complaints and grievances that are apparently written by AI for some time.

From an employee perspective, the appeal is clear. Generative AI allows employees to craft complaints that look polished (clear headings, timelines, etc.) and sound impressively legitimate. However, even though they may seem good at first glance, AI tools can cause problems. They fabricate case references, misrepresent rules, and encourage people to pursue unrealistic or irrelevant arguments and complaints.

Additionally, AI-generated complaints typically sound “legitimate,” which could increase escalation if the tone is perceived as overly aggressive. For employers, the impact is even more negative.

Complaints generated by AI are typically overly complex and repetitive, and can be filled with extraneous points that distract from the true heart of the employee complaint and impede resolution. Handling such complaints wastes administrative time, increases the time it takes to respond to complaints, and can harm workplace relationships.

Also, for non-experts, identifying errors and irrelevance in AI-generated text can be daunting, further increasing the time and resources needed to address complaints. This is where DFA Law LLP can help. Our specialist employment lawyers will remove the jargon, mistakes and collateral issues to reveal the true nature of your complaint.

This allows for a focused and efficient investigation of the relevant facts, paving the way to a quick and fair outcome.

“Law firm” utilizing AI

Another relatively new phenomenon is the rise of AI law firms, where clients can choose to interact entirely with AI and not incur the costs associated with interacting with a human advisor. These AI tools transform client stories into structured complaints, settlements, and court filings that appear as if they were coming from a real law firm. For employees, it is attractive because it is significantly cheaper than having a human advisor provide guidance.

One recent example we came across is Graapple Law, which launched in 2025 as an AI-powered employment law service for employees. Its website states: “Grapple Law is a fully automated law firm with no lawyers handling the cases. But it is built on the knowledge of thousands of successful cases…

Grapple Law Firm is a new type of law firm that utilizes AI instead of people.
