Like several stars, Telugu star Naga Chaitanya has also filed a petition in the Delhi High Court to protect moral rights from deepfakes, AI-generated content and unauthorized products. On Friday, his team said in court that many websites and social media pages were using his image in wrong and harmful ways.
Complaints about AI videos
According to an ANI report, senior advocate Vaibhav Gaggar appeared in court on behalf of Naga Chaitanya. He said many of the AI-generated videos and deepfake clips showed actors in uncomfortable situations. He also told the court that some videos falsely linked the actor to his ex-wife and spread claims that he cheated on her and ruined her career.“This is vandalism and not fair criticism,” Gugger said directly in court.The actor also claimed that several pornographic websites are using his name in domain names, tags, and search results. According to the case, this created a false link between the actor and the obscene content online.Justice Jyoti Singh heard the matter and also looked into the actor’s request for a dynamic injunction. He said new fake and harmful content continues to appear online every day, and strong protections are needed to quickly stop future abuse.
Acting team claims reputation has been damaged
The actor’s team also claimed that his public image and commercial value were being tarnished by fake videos, audio clone clips and manipulated content shared online for views and money.The lawsuit also noted that several legal notices have already been sent to platforms and intermediaries. However, many of the individuals said they did not respond appropriately or only removed some of the content.
YouTube fights back in court
During the hearing, the court said that while public figures may be exposed to more public attention, there must still be limits. “While you are in a public sphere and are certainly more vulnerable than other people, there are limits to that,” the court said.Lawyers appearing for YouTube informed the court that some of the AI-generated videos mentioned by the actor have already been removed. At the same time, it said that some links are related to news reporting and may be subject to different legal standards.After hearing both sides, the Delhi High Court issued summons in the case and said it would pass an interim order to protect the actor’s moral rights while the matter continues in court.
