AI coding tools have made code generation faster than ever before, but applications built outside of managed platforms introduce risk, incur technical debt, and often fail to meet compliance requirements. The result is a growing problem of shadow development, where unmanaged apps proliferate faster than IT can secure them, and every app built but not adopted is a waste of your AI investment. At the same time, the people closest to the business problems – platform administrators, business analysts, and citizen developers – lacked AI-native tools to make it easier to build. ServiceNow addresses both challenges by expanding the number of users who can build enterprise applications, ensuring that everything built meets enterprise standards by default.
“Vibe coding is transforming the speed at which people can build,” he said. “But speed without governance and enterprise runtimes often produces apps that look ready but aren’t.” Jithin Bhasker, Group Vice President and General Manager, Creator Workflows and App Engine, ServiceNow. “We enable anyone to build on ServiceNow using tools they are familiar with, including IDEs, coding agents, and design tools, ensuring that what they build is enterprise-ready from the moment they start deploying.”
Build, run, and manage anywhere with ServiceNow.
Whether developers work within ServiceNow Studio, from their favorite IDE, or with an AI coding agent, the experience is AI-native and AI-managed.
Build Agent’s core skills are now available through the ServiceNow SDK, giving developers complete platform intelligence wherever they build. When deployed on the ServiceNow AI platform, all applications inherit enterprise-grade audit trails, security checks, compliance, scalability, and performance. Developers also get their own sandbox environment for testing and validation before going live. Once up and running, all applications connect directly to the workflows, data, and systems that power work across the enterprise. For those who prefer the security and context of building directly on the platform, the Build Agent now makes use of the Anthropic model. This allows for longer contextual sessions, allowing developers to work through an entire application build without losing continuity.
Build Agent also connects to external partner tools as an MCP client, retrieving design specifications from Figma, requirements from Miro, and code context from GitHub.
Customize and extend existing applications
With millions of customizations that enterprises make to their ServiceNow environments each year, Build Agent now works across the entire platform, including out-of-the-box applications, not just custom apps built from scratch.
Previously, that work relied on a limited number of specialized ServiceNow developers, creating backlogs and slowing business. Build Agent can now operate across application scopes, allowing developers to directly customize and extend existing ServiceNow applications and workflows using AI-native development.
Build Agent is now also included in ServiceNow Studio, the primary development environment for ServiceNow’s developer community. The Build Agent understands live instances, including existing data models, configurations, and policies, so you can generate complete applications, including workflows, catalog items, UI components, and configurations, in a single session.
Create and deploy AI agents at scale
Building enterprise AI agents has traditionally required deep platform expertise. of AI Agent Studio Reimagined A guided, conversational authoring experience changes this, making it easier for a wider range of builders to create and deploy AI agents.
When a developer uses the Build Agent to build a custom application, In-app AI agent Now embedded in your app’s workflow by default. These agents answer questions, uncover insights, and take actions on behalf of end users within the context of the application and under full AI Control Tower oversight. Apps get smarter not only during development, but also after deployment.
Run and manage on the ServiceNow AI platform
As AI-native development accelerates the pace of app and agent creation, the platform’s governance layer helps ensure that nothing ships without meeting enterprise standards.
