The AI gap is widening, not narrowing. As of June 2025, high-income countries accounted for 77% of the world’s colocation data center capacity, while low-income countries accounted for less than 0.1%. Microsoft found that generative AI adoption in the Global North is currently roughly twice as high as in the Global South, and that gap will widen by 2025.
$150,000 in artificial intelligence funding
The AI for Humanity Prize awards up to 150,000 in unrestricted funding to one team that uses data science, artificial intelligence, and machine learning to create a solution that advances an equitable and sustainable future across health, climate, learning, economic opportunity, or Indigenous community priorities.
Most AI grants are for early-stage prototypes. This is not the case. The winning team will focus on:
- Technology-based social impact ventures using AI, ML, or data science
- The solution is already on the market and attracting real users and attention
MIT Solve specifically looks for solutions that are already operational at scale – solutions that can demonstrate unit economics, customer acquisition paths, and real outcomes. Projects in the pilot stage will be screened.
