Does the video actually show a horse protecting its owner from Japan’s magnitude 7.4 earthquake? No, that’s not true. The video shows signs generated by AI. Additionally, Lead Stories could not find any reports related to such events outside of social media posts.

This claim appeared in a post made to Bluesky by the account @contemprainn.bsky.social on April 23, 2026 (archived here). It included a video and a caption that read:

Visual clues indicate that the video was generated by AI. There was no structural damage to the stable, and it appears that the event was more like an explosion than an earthquake. The bucket shown on the left side of the video, which spills water when an “earthquake” occurs, has no bottom and could not have filled with water in the first place.
