A new kind of annoying little feature has been added to Zoom video calls. The platform will ask you if you are a human. It has partnered with Sam Altman’s iris-scan ID company World (formerly known as WorldCoin) to add real-time human authentication within meetings.
This feature launches on April 17, 2026 and is part of World’s ID 4.0 rollout. This allows hosts to ensure that every face on a call is a real person and not an AI-generated impostor.

How does the “Verified Human” badge actually work?
For those wondering how World’s Deep Face technology works, it involves a three-step process. This cross-references the signature image from the user’s original orb registration, the live facial scan from the device, and the frames of the video that are displayed to other participants in the meeting.
Only if the three samples match will a “Verified Human” badge appear next to the username. To me, it seems strange and ironic that I have to prove I’m human in order to be seen as a human being in a Zoom meeting.
Hosts can also require deep face authentication to join a meeting, preventing unauthenticated participants from joining completely. You can also check on the spot during a call. So whether you think your colleague is acting a little strange or you just want to annoy someone, you can request a check in real time.

Why is this necessary?
Simple: Deepfake scams are no longer something you hear about from a friend of a friend or read about on a weekend blog. In early 2024, engineering firm Arup lost $25 million after an employee in Hong Kong allowed a wire transfer during a video call that turned out to be a deepfake for everyone but the victim.
Something similar happened in 2025 with a multinational company in Singapore. Furthermore, financial losses due to deepfake fraud exceeded $200 million in the first quarter of last year alone. This threat is no longer hypothetical. It’s a problem that more and more people and businesses are facing.
The direction is clear. Biometric identity verification is becoming more and more standard in the workplace.
