Google has added a number of new features to its AI-based video generation platform, Google Vids. Users will have the option of custom music generation and AI avatars for anchor-driven videos. With the addition of these two new features, the company has opened up text-to-video generation capabilities to free users. Previously, this feature was only available to paid subscribers.
This comes at a time when OpenAI is pushing its Sora video creation platform and Elon Musk is pushing xAI’s video generation tool, Grok Imagine.
First and foremost, Google personal account users can now generate 8-second videos for free. However, Google currently limits free video generation to 10 per month. These users can turn ideas from simple prompts into high-quality videos using Google’s latest video generation model, Veo 3.1.
Custom music generation with Lyria models
For users who want to add custom music to their videos, Google has introduced the Lyria 3 and Lyria 3 Pro models to Google Vids. This newly added feature will enable Google AI Pro and Ultra subscribers to generate music from short 30-second clips to three-minute tracks. However, this feature is not available to free users.
AI avatars for anchor-driven videos
Additionally, the newly added AI avatar feature will allow users to generate anchor-driven videos. These AI anchors have a consistent face and voice that can be used across multiple clips and projects. Users can place anchors in specific scenes, and AI anchors can also interact with uploaded objects. Google also gave users control over their AI avatars, allowing them to swap clothes and change their backgrounds. However, this feature is currently only available to paid Google AI Pro and Ultra subscribers.
In addition to these features, Google has rolled out new tools that allow users to create and share videos from Google Vids. Users can now get the Screen Recorder Chrome extension for free, allowing them to record their screens and themselves from anywhere on the web.
Google also now allows users to upload their videos directly from Google Vids to YouTube, eliminating the extra steps involved in rendering and downloading videos.
