Alphabet (GOOG, Financials) is making a clear push to bring AI video tools to a wider audience with the launch of Veo 3.1 Lite, its most cost-effective video generation model to date.

The new model is designed to lower the barrier for developers building high-capacity video applications. According to Google, Veo 3.1 Lite is as fast as existing models but costs less than half, giving developers more flexibility based on their needs and budget.

At the same time as the launch, Google announced that the price of the Veo 3.1 Fast model would also be reduced starting April 7th, reinforcing its strategy to promote widespread adoption through more affordable pricing.

Veo 3.1 Lite supports both text-to-video and image-to-video generation, with a variety of format and resolution options including 720p and 1080p. This model is already deployed and available through Google’s Gemini API and AI Studio platform.

The timing is notable as AI video competition intensifies. OpenAI has recently signaled a move away from Sora video tools, which could open up an opening for rivals.

For investors, the focus will be on whether lower pricing will encourage adoption and strengthen Google’s position in the rapidly evolving AI ecosystem.
