Google says this feature will allow users to draft documents and customize tools within Google Search.
Canvas can be used to perform a variety of tasks, such as uploading class notes along with other sources to create study guides.
Users can describe their ideas to Canva, which generates code to transform them into amazing apps and games, and helps users refine their drafts of creative writing.
How do I access Canvas?
Users need to select the new Canvas option from the Tools menu (+) in AI mode and write what they need to generate to open the Canvas side panel where users can collect information from Google and the web’s knowledge graph.
With the latest Canvas release, Google aims to beat out major AI-powered competitors such as OpenAI and Anthropic.
However, while ChatGPT’s Canvas functionality runs automatically based on queries, Google and Anthropic’s Claude require more direct interaction.

Google AI Pro and Google AI Ultra subscribers will now have access to Gemini’s Canvas and a larger 1 million token context window for more complex projects.
Notably, Canvas is now accessible to all users across the United States through Google’s AI search feature, known as AI Mode.
