The upcoming India AI Impact Summit has received phenomenal response globally and will be the largest AI summit of its kind in the world, Union Electronics and Information Technology Minister Ashwini Vaishnau said.
Minister Vaishnau told the media that nearly 100 countries are expected to participate in the summit, with 15 heads of state and government already confirmed to participate.
The industry response is equally strong, with more than 100 global CEOs expected to attend the AI Summit.
Vaishnau pointed out that Prime Minister Narendra Modi recently held talks with key stakeholders across the AI value chain, including model developers, application builders, and infrastructure providers.
He said this initiative shows how India is progressing in all five layers of AI architecture, with strength particularly emerging at the application layer.
“What has been highlighted is the systematic way in which India has developed its AI ecosystem. Most recently, the Prime Minister interacted with people who are developing models, people who are developing applications and people who are setting up infrastructure,” he said.
“There are five layers to the AI architecture. The app layer, the people who spoke to PM yesterday were very encouraged to see such a systematic reward for the work they’ve put in, and that our IT industry is now focused on delivering AI solutions rather than the old model of doing software development, which is a strength our industry has cultivated for decades.”
Vaishnault claimed that Indian companies have already developed over 200 AI models, most of which are small-scale, focused, sector-specific and designed to solve well-defined real-world problems.
“When I met with the Prime Minister, they shared that they have developed over 200 models so far. They are very focused, very small-scale, and completely oriented towards solving problems in specific areas. I think this is the big learning that many people express today, that the real value comes from the implementation of AI, that you get productivity gains, you get efficiency gains,” the Union Minister said.

After meeting AI startups recently, Prime Minister Narendra Modi interacted with CEOs and artificial intelligence (AI) experts at his official residence here in the capital earlier this week.
Coinciding with the IndiaAI Impact Summit to be held from February 16 to 20, the exchange aimed to foster strategic cooperation, showcase AI innovation, and accelerate India’s AI mission goals. During the conversation, CEOs expressed strong support for the goal of becoming self-reliant with AI. They also acknowledged the efforts and resources being put in by the government to position India as a leader in AI on the world stage.
