Veteran author and lyricist Javed Akhtar has fallen prey to the growing abuse of artificial intelligence online. Akhtar, who is known for openly expressing his opinions on social media, slammed X for a fake AI-generated video that has been circulating widely on the internet recently. The video reportedly shows a computer-generated image of him wearing a topi and falsely claims he has “turned to God,” a claim the lyricist flatly denies.
Javed Akhtar called the video “trashy” and said the fabricated content was not only misleading but also damaged his reputation and credibility. He added that he is currently considering legal action and plans to file a complaint with cyber police to track down those responsible for creating and distributing the video.
Javed Akhtar takes action against fake AI video
In a strongly worded post about X, Javed Akhtar shared his disappointment and anger over the viral clip. “There's a fake video going around showing a fake computer-generated photo of me with a topic on top of my head, ultimately claiming that I turned to God. That's bullshit. I'm seriously considering reporting this to the cyber police, and I've ended up taking the person responsible for this fake news and the few people who forwarded it to court for damaging my reputation and credibility.” (sic)
The tweet quickly gained attention on social media, with many users expressing concern about how easily AI-generated content can misrepresent public figures. Several fans and colleagues expressed support for Akhtar and called on the authorities to take strict action against those who misuse technology to spread misinformation.
The misuse of AI in the entertainment industry is once again in the spotlight
This incident has once again brought the issue of misuse of AI in the entertainment industry into the spotlight. Several celebrities have recently sounded the alarm about deepfake videos, morphed images, and fake audio clips circulating in their names. Many have gone to court to protect their personalities and publicity rights, while others have called for stricter cyber laws to curb such behavior.
For those who don't know, Javed Akhtar's AI-generated video reportedly surfaced shortly after he participated in a public debate on Gaza, God, and Justice. Islamic scholar Mufti Shamari Nadwi also attended the discussion. The timing of the fake clip further raised questions about deliberate attempts to distort his views and statements through manipulated content.
