Allison Stransky, chief marketing officer of Samsung Electronics Americas, said in a video interview. CMO Insider How brands are getting consumers to embrace AI-connected homes, an exciting invention born from a student competition, and how her favorite AI device doesn’t have a screen.
Below is an edited transcript and video of the interview.
Artificial intelligence is a hot topic in everything we do. At Samsung, AI is now present in every category of almost every product. Although AI has only recently entered the consumer lexicon, we have been innovating with it for over a decade.
We’re now trying to help consumers understand that AI is a tool, and the reason we have AI in every product is because it makes their lives better.
This year, we launched a campaign called “Smart Things meets AI Home.” What we’re telling you is that our connected app, Smart Things, can help you create your own personalized AI home concept. Rather than talking about one product, such as a smartphone or television, the campaign included multiple business lines and products.
The story was about how all of this works together to create benefits that go beyond the capabilities of the individual products.
Because when your washer and dryer get you out of the house faster, or when your TV becomes the best and most comprehensive source of home entertainment experiences, that’s when we believe the benefits of AI will make your life better and different.
Fostering student innovation and loyalty
One of the most special activities we run is Samsung’s “Solve for Tomorrow” program, a STEM competition for students from grades 6 to 12. The only question is: Will you use STEM to solve problems in your community?
That’s the overview. It’s so intentionally vague that it’s truly incredible what students come up with. In recent years, award winners have been leveraging AI, machine learning, and robotics to solve problems in their communities.
What impressed us most was the incredible empathy that went into all of these solutions.
Last year, there was a team that created an oral cancer screening app. This is an easy way to find out if the problem in your mouth is just a canker sore or something more serious.
There was a team that recognized the shortage of doctors and created an AI bandage. Actual reading of the wound condition on behalf of the patient could help speed up patient treatment.

Finally, we had an all-female team that recognized that hearing-impaired athletes present a different set of challenges on the field. The team has created a sensory headgear that not only allows you to keep your hearing aids on, but also allows you to track what’s happening in the field in a more convenient way.
We are so impressed with these kids and really want to build relationships with them early on. By providing a platform and microphone for their great ideas, we not only give them the opportunity to give back to their communities, but also hope they love Samsung.
So when it comes time for them to buy their own phone, TV or refrigerator, they will remember the great experience they had with us.
AI at home
I love my Galaxy ring because it tracks my movements, actions, and sleep habits and makes recommendations. What’s interesting to me is that I forget it’s on. You can learn these things completely seamlessly in your life.
the most valuable lesson i learned My ring tells me that my stress levels are highest not in the boardroom, but when I lose my daughter’s favorite stuffed animal. We are seeing a severe spike in stress.
I know this is happening right now., I love what AI and Samsung products do for me because they offer such low-key benefits.
