Amazon Prime Video is testing another new AI-powered generation feature that will help you figure out what shows you’re watching before a new season starts. Video Recaps uses AI to identify a show’s key plot points and create short but “theatrical-quality” video summaries that combine selected clips with music, dialogue, and narration.
The video summary feature will be available in beta on select English Prime Original series starting this week. Tom Clancy’s Jack Ryan, upload, bosch, rigand fall out (Ahead of the Season 2 premiere on December 17, 2025). Amazon says available summaries, including the text-based X-Ray Recaps it introduced a year ago, will be accessible through a summaries button on the details page “when customers move to the next season of a supported series.” Initially limited to “living room” Fire TV devices, it will expand to other devices in the coming months.
The feature begins by “analyzing the season’s key plot points and character arcs to deeply understand the most important moments that resonate with viewers.” AI then selects video clips and splices them with audio, including sound effects and “comprehensive AI-generated narration.” The length of the recaps varies by show, but one photo shared in the blog post includes a recap of Season 3. This feature could help refresh your memory for shows with particularly long gaps between seasons. But does Amazon really need to use AI to create these summaries, opening the door to potentially confusing inaccuracies as we enter new seasons? Having video summaries available for every season of every show available on Prime might justify its use of AI, but there are less than 20 original drama series on the platform, and this rollout doesn’t include them all.
