A middle school teacher in Netanya discovered that her 8th grade students were distributing AI-generated porn videos featuring her face.
Israeli police said an investigation was opened at Netanya police station following the complaint.
The individuals suspected of being involved were several minors, approximately 14 years old, who created the footage using artificial intelligence tools and digital editing. They then distributed it on WhatsApp groups and social media.
One of the students was said to have been involved in creating the video itself, while another helped distribute it. The teacher was exposed to the footage after it had already circulated among students and did so for a short period of time, at which point she called the police to prevent its continued distribution.
As part of the investigation at Netanya police station, several minors suspected of being involved in the incident were summoned and questioned. Initial findings revealed that there was a division of roles between the parties involved. One person was responsible for creating the video and the other for its distribution.
At the conclusion of the investigation, the primary suspect was released with restrictions and police continue to work to map the extent of the exposure and locate additional persons of interest.
This case is being taken seriously by the education system and the police because it shows the depth of harm that can be caused by the misuse of available artificial intelligence tools. In the coming days, investigators are expected to expand their collection of testimony from within the school and take additional steps to stop the continued distribution of the footage.
