IIT Kharagpur, in partnership with SWAYAM, has started accepting applications for a free online deep learning course scheduled to start in January 2026.
This program is aimed at students who want to understand how AI systems handle tasks such as image recognition, speech interpretation, and other machine learning-driven applications. Registration is open on the SWAYAM/NPTEL portal until January 26, 2026, and the final exam is optional.
Over 12 weeks (January 19 to April 17, 2026), students will learn how to use these models to solve problems in healthcare, security, voice technology, automation, and more.
Examples of real-world applications taught in this course include analyzing medical images for diagnostics, recognizing faces and objects in photos, powering voice assistants, building intelligent chatbots, detecting fraud with pattern recognition, predicting traffic and weather, and enabling autonomous systems such as drones and robotics.
Who can register?
Undergraduate and graduate students in engineering, particularly computer science, electronic communications, and electrical engineering, are welcome to apply. A background in linear algebra, digital signal processing, and partial differential equations is recommended for smooth learning.
certification exam
Learners wishing to obtain the certificate will have to pay a fee of Rs 1,000 and appear for a proctored offline exam on April 25, 2026. To qualify, candidates must score at least 10/25 on the assignment and 30/75 on the final exam.
