Artificial intelligence and automation could wipe out almost 100 million jobs in the US over the next decade, according to a report released Monday by Senator Bernie Sanders (D-Vt.).
Ironically, based on ChatGpt's findings, the analysis found that new technologies can erase jobs from a wide range of fields, including the roles of white and blue colours.
AI, automation and robotics can collide with 40% of registered nurses, 47% of truck drivers, 64% of accountants, 65% of teaching assistants and 89% of fast food workers.
“The agricultural revolution took place for thousands of years. The industrial revolution took over more than a century,” the report states. “Artificial labor could rebuild the economy within 10 years.”
In Washington, debate over AI regulation is intensifying.
The Trump administration argued that the US should lead the world in AI development, and that if China wins race it could pose a national security threat.
Meanwhile, Senate Democrats are calling for an increase in sector regulations. This calls for workers protection, such as 32 hours of working hours and companies that switch to automation, such as “robot tax.”
Amazon and Walmart are two of the biggest publicly available US companies by revenue – relying on automation efforts, which have already significantly cut jobs in tens of thousands of people.
On Fox News' Op-Ed on Monday, Sanders warned that “Artificial intelligence and robotics where these billions of types are being developed today can help corporate America wipe out tens of millions of decent pay jobs, cut labor costs and increase profits.”
He argued that AI is simply used as a tool to concentrate wealth more, nodding to CEOs who invested billions in automation while announcing massive layoffs and cost-cutting measures.
Sanders warned that manufacturing workers and truck, bus and taxi drivers have been devastated as more and more automakers and tech startups are increasingly increasing in number of autonomous driving projects.
“Some of the world's wealthiest people, including Elon Musk, Larry Ellison, Mark Zuckerberg, and Jeff Bezos, are currently investing hundreds of billions in these innovative technologies,” Sanders wrote in his manipulation.
“Why is that so? They want to improve the standard of living for 60% of those who are paying their wages.
“I think it's because investing in AI and robotics will exponentially increase wealth and power,” he continued.
