Amazon is actively involved with the global leaders of the 80th UN General Assembly (UNGA80) to discuss the role of technology in addressing some of the world's most pressing challenges. Through Project Kuiper, the company highlighted its initiatives in responsible artificial intelligence (AI) and global internet expansion.
David Zapolsky, chief executive of Amazon's Global Affairs & Legal Officer, highlighted the importance of collaboration and noted that a single organization or government cannot tackle these challenges alone. “By working together across sectors, including the United Nations, global governments, civil society and private companies, we can ensure that these powerful technologies will benefit humanity widely, while minimizing potential harm,” he said.
Project Kuiper: Filling the digital gap
Amazon's satellite-based initiative, Project Kuiper aims to provide affordable high-speed internet to underserved communities around the world. By expanding connectivity, the project is trying to close digital disparities and enable economic participation, access to education, and cultural exchange for billions.
Responsible AI for Inclusive Growth
Amazon is also driving AI solutions designed to democratize access to technology and enhance human potential. The company's AI tools aim to enable small and medium-sized businesses to optimize their businesses, support scientific research, and access advanced technology beyond large organizations with critical resources.
Zapolsky noted that the discussion at UNGA80 focuses on how global stakeholders collectively utilize innovation, while addressing development and governance concerns. “We are committed to developing and deploying responsible AI, as well as expanding global connectivity to improving our lives, creating economic opportunities and building a sustainable future,” he added.
