The real risk is that leaders simply chase efficiency and get the heart of the profession
In a world where chatbots are increasingly employed to solve employee queries, it is fascinating to think human resources (HR) experts are heading towards redundancy when algorithms scan thousands of CVs in seconds and generate artificial intelligence (AI) draft a policy when clicking a button. After all, if machines can hold recruitment, process leave requests, or even initial interviews, what remains for humans?
However, this view is very nearsighted. It mistook efficiency in strategy, assumes that automation will inevitably lead to unemployment, and overlook consistent lessons from history. New technology rarely erases human work. Instead, they transform and expand it.
Beyond Automation: The True Value of HR
When you reduce your HR to everyday tasks like payroll, leave processing, and query processing, it's completely intrinsic. AI certainly takes over much of this management task, but the heart of HR lies in building trust, shaping culture, and navigating complex dynamics between employers and employees. There is no algorithm to comfort employees facing harassment, mediate workplace conflicts, or examine the ethical aspects of redundancy decisions. These remain highly human responsibility.
