Openai launches a Jobs platform with AI
Openai announced that it will launch an AI-powered employment platform by mid-2026 and compete directly with LinkedIn. The company has announced the initiative along with an expanded accreditation program designed to validate job seekers' AI skills.
The Openai Jobs platform uses artificial intelligence algorithms to match candidates with employers based on proven AI competency rather than traditional resume keywords. The platform targets businesses seeking skilled workers in automation, rapid engineering and AI implementation across a variety of industries.
Openai is working with major employers, including Walmart and the Boston Consulting Group, to develop the platform's capabilities. Walmart, the largest private employer in the United States with 1.6 million workers, initially provides free authentication access to all US employees.
The Texas Association of Business will use the platform to connect local employers with candidates who can support IT modernization projects, according to Openai's announcement.
The company is expanding Openai Academy, a free learning platform that has reached over 2 million users to provide formal AI certification. The program covers skills ranging from basic workplace AI applications to advanced, rapid engineering techniques.
Training and authentication testing takes place within ChatGPT's learning mode, allowing candidates to prepare and complete their credentials without leaving the application. Openai aims to recognize 10 million Americans by 2030.
This initiative positions Openai against established players in the professional networking market. LinkedIn maintains over 1 billion members worldwide, but in reality it handles 27 jobs per minute with 615 million registered job seekers.
The platform is also competing with LinkedIn Learning's education offering, which could cause tension by reporting $13 billion in stock with Microsoft, a leading Openai investor. Microsoft previously identified Openai as a competitor in a particular business segment despite its partnership.
Labor market data supports Openai's focus on AI capabilities. A Lightcast survey analyzing over 1 billion job postings found that positions requiring AI skills offer an average of 28% higher salary without such requirements. Jobs that require multiple AI Skill Command Premiums are up to 43% above standard reward levels.
Demand spans industry as businesses integrate artificial intelligence into operations for task automation, data analysis and product development. Employers are increasingly looking for workers who can have practical AI applications rather than advanced technical programming skills.
The platform allows employers to describe natural language requirements, and AI systems identify candidates who demonstrate relevant capabilities through portfolio work and practical experience. This approach differs from traditional keyword-based matching systems used in existing job platforms.
Rather than reopening optimization techniques commonly used on current platforms, Openai's systems aim to bring candidates to the surface based on actual project experience.
