Powell's book faces recent backlash against product design through the use of artificial intelligence assistance.

The bookstore has issued partial statements about social media writing. “We would like to acknowledge our recent product design concerns. The design was created by local artists using Adobe tools.

Following the release of the new product design, one person went to Reddit and asked about one of the designs featuring wolves on a stack of books, saying, “I picked up one for today's birthday and noticed that some of the books looked a little unstable.

Ilwu Local 5, a union representing Powell workers, posted on Facebook about the product, saying, “Powell workers have been expressing concerns about the use of AI in these designs for several months, and the company's leadership has not been moved.”

In a statement by Powell, they also wrote, “We value the work of human artists and designers, and continue to rely on Powell's designs to be rooted in creativity and imagination.”

Powell said he is looking for local artists who will help them create their next design and encourage them to reach out to the artists.

Katu's Jennifer Singh follows the story and is expected to continue with more updates.
