India's IT Giant Tata Consultant Services (TCS) is moving towards acquiring the growing importance of AI with the formation of new AI (AI) and service conversion units based on Amit Kapur's stewardship, according to a report in Business Standards.
Kapur, a veteran of TCS and currently responsible for the company's UK and Ireland operations, will be head of AI and Services Transformation from September 1st, the BS report states. He reports directly to Aarthi Subramanian, Executive Director, President and Chief Operating Officer of TCS.
The new unit will combine all of TCS' existing AI teams and capabilities, working closely with the horizontal service unit and industry business group to provide measurable value to clients.
“This journey aims to update service delivery, strengthen AIRED domain solutions, build new partnership ecosystems, and accelerate innovation in providing AI-powered integrated technology services across operations, engineering and modernization.”
The development follows TCS' announcement that it will lay off at least 12,000 employees, or 2% of the workforce worldwide for the current fiscal year. However, TCS CEO K. Krithivasan has denied AI as the cause behind the decision.
