They also committed to strengthening the professional formation of African media practitioners by integrating modules on AI, digital literacy, and Catholic social education into training programs and media education.
Members of UCAP said they will work with the Bishops' Conference, universities, policymakers and civil society to develop a framework that balances technological innovation and moral responsibility.
They further committed to working actively to promote a culture of peace, reconciliation and fraternity by giving voice to voiceless communication that protects truth, freedom, justice and solidarity.
Recommendations
In a series of recommendations, UCAP members invite governments and policymakers to “regulate the use of AI to prevent erosion of truth, manipulation of conscience, and violation of privacy. Investments in digital infrastructure and ethical frameworks that protect human dignity while supporting innovation.”
They are calling on media organizations to “adopt editorial policies that enable AI tools to establish fact-checking mechanisms and promote transparency in the use of AI-generated content,” they say, “election of AI tools do not replace human judgment, conscience, or responsibility.”
UCAP members also invite Catholic media experts to commit to continuing professional formation in technology, ethics and communications, inspired by Catholic social education.
They also call on their peers to serve as “missioners of peace and reconciliation” by resisting disinformation and promoting journalistic integrity.

For African churches, UCAP members continue to guide and support Catholic communicators in identifying the ethical challenges raised by AI. They encourage parishes and Catholic institutions to invest in media education that forms journalists in the truth, responsibility and service of the common good.”
