It would be a belated but understatement. Meta and Ray-Ban have taken their own sweet time to fire smart artificial intelligence (AI) glasses in the country. The competitive landscape at this point is baffling. And I'm sure decision makers in both of these companies didn't imagine it was such simple sailing, even after a considerable amount of time had passed. Nevertheless, a group of the most well-known sunglasses manufacturers and a high-tech company that is too enthusiastic to invest heavily in AI refinement can only go in one way: to success.
The difficulty of getting AI glasses right may seem simple with a mix of hardware, cameras, audio, and AI that responds to queries, but it doesn't really exist. It's not like the ecosystem is stagnant. Because there was effort (such as the brilliant labs and XReal smart glasses), but it doesn't manage the scale that Ray-Ban and Meta have according to the 2021 Ray-Ban story. It's not exactly light in the pocket, the price starts £I'm going with 29,900 £35,700 depending on the variant you choose (transition yes or no is a key part of that decision).
Meta AI glasses can basically do some very well for the average user, as often called. If one or more of these features are in alleys, you may feel that this spending is worthy of technology adoption.

The first one is to take photos and videos. The 12-megapixel camera combines and looks like it's not from a smartphone, first of all, in terms of quality and color. The only tip is that it can actually work well in so many photo scenarios. Considering this is theoretically the first generation, the camera quality of Ray-Ban Meta Smart Glasses is considerably better than expected. And that includes low-light photos. Overall, I am impressed by the smoothness of the frame with the photographic details, richness of the colour, brightness, and smoothness of the video.
The only limitation you notice in some photos is that you cannot actually frame or zoom in the shot. The latter is easier to manage by editing later. Framing is also a bit of a hit and a mistake, but if you get a fair idea about the perspective field right away, you'll have less gambling. For some reason, Ray-Ban Metacams make you look even more standing from your subject when you take a shot than you actually do. If instant photos are the main reason you're scattered across the Ray-Ban meta, this may not be the complete set. However, for videos, there is a maximum limit of 3 minutes per recording, making it ideal for capturing 360-degree views of scenic landscapes and event highlights.

You can broadcast live videos directly to Facebook (i.e., if your friends are still hanging around), or Instagram shares your perspective in real time with friends and followers. After all, Ray-Banmeta aims to connect to the social aspects with a 3:4 aspect ratio. That being said, despite the very obvious social media focus, it is baffling that these glasses can connect well with WhatsApp, Messenger, Facebook and Instagram, but they are not yet in threads. For Facebook and Instagram, you can post to stories, but WhatsApp connections help you reply to messages using Meta AI and Voice.
And it really brings me to the point about my personal AI assistant. Beyond “Hey Meta, take a photo” and “Hey Meta, record a video”, you can answer your questions, identify the objects you're looking at, pull out information about landmarks and field of view, and find the right assistant to translate text from different languages. Frequently for travelers and those who are out there, this feature set simply works. The voice commands seem to work pretty well, even with ambient noise like wind. Meta AI is smarter than expected, and I think it's on par with Google Gemini or Openai's ChatGpt for most real queries.
You may be wondering about battery life, and that's where things inevitably become interesting. A charging case, essentially a carry case, is more convenient than ever. A 3-minute video recording will drain approximately 5% of the battery, while a 5-minute music streaming will be close to 3%. Wear it normally and click a few photos of your meal and it uses about 10% per hour for the convenience of Meta AI ears.

The main question was saved last. How do you do your main job of blocking the harsh afternoon sun in the middle of summer? The reality is, they're not about that. In fact, my regular Ray-Bans and Oakleys (and cheaper too) do a much better job. Ray-Ban Meta Transition Lenses do not dim the ambient light that is as dim as some of you like. In that respect, it becomes clear that while leaving some cards on a table with core transition lens capabilities, Ray-Banmeta ideally focuses on a wider sense of purpose, such as cameras, AI wearables, and voice-based message response mechanisms.
Whether it's that worth that is a question I can't answer to you.
