AI in video game development has created a huge debate. Whether it's visual assets, music, marketing materials, or even the entire game, it's already highly used, determining the amount of AI disclaimers in Steam games.
Some gamers don't want to play anything made with AI. Often, it is for ethical reasons, including the darkness of the copyright approach of many AI companies and the potential impact on employment. However, there are many uses for AI.
Please take a look
Brian's career in game development dates back to role-playing games like The Bard's Tale and Wasteland in the 1980s. He has produced fallout and recently led the development of the upcoming first-person steampunk RPG watch revolution as Inxile's studio head.
Brian spoke to Youtuber Mrmattyplays about the controversial topics of not only gaming but also video game generation AI, not just gaming, but his career and controversial topics. After all, Microsoft, which owns Inxile, is investing $800 billion in the region while cutting jobs.
Brian appears to have a more modest view of AI than the rest of Microsoft. He says he is worried about unemployment and is not in favor of using AI, which is considered plagiarism. But he also says that AI makes sense for mediocre tasks no one wants to do, such as querying data, cleaning up, checking punctuation.
“These games…we're basically almost the same number of words as the Bible, so that's a lot of data that humans can't get into their heads,” he pointed out, “I have a mind that's rather good.”
He also suggests that AI images can be used as inspiration and can compare them to visits of museums and deviant art. “I don't think I'm inspired by it and use it,” he says. Other potential “ethical” uses of AI he refers to include voicing the last minute newt pickup line if the actor is not available, and if the actor agrees and receives compensation anyway. Another argument Brian has stated is that small developers are using AI with too much attention to what the media is thinking about it.
What do you think? What AI in video game design can be considered ethical? Or is it all or nothing wrong? What are your thoughts on the discussion in the comments section below?
