When speaking at a banking conference hosted by the Federal Reserve this week, Altman said there is a worrying amount of “emotional overdependence” in ChatGpt, especially among young people.
“People are too dependent on ChatGpt,” Altman said. “You can't make a decision in life without telling Chatgpt everything that's going on. It knows me, I know my friend. I will do whatever it says.” It really feels bad for me. ”
Altman said excessive reliance on ChatGpt for decision-making is “really common with young people.”
Young people are increasingly using AI chatbots and peers in their daily lives.
According to the Common Sense Media Report, 72% of teens use fellow AI. Half of those surveyed said they trusted at least “somewhat” their peers' advice.
yResearch shows that Ounger children seem to trust their AI peers more. 27% of respondents aged 13-14 say they have some degree of trust in technology compared to 20% of respondents aged 15-17. Within the group that said they trusted their AI peers, 23% said they trusted them “significantly” or “completely.”
Speaking about his concerns about being overly dependent on AI at the meeting, Altman said Openai is “trying to understand what to do about it.”
