As high-tech CEOs predict that AI will replace humans in just five years, this Fortune 500 boss says focusing on real people is a “recipe for failure”

AI has already left that mark on Corporate America. This has earned 75,000 high-tech layoffs this year alone, in preparation for human-comparable technology just five years later.

This may burn the dream of a two-day worker, but fear the AI-fueled apocalypse – James Zarry, CEO of Fortune 500 Food Ingredients Company, has a clear answer: people and culture come first.

“If you're taking your eyes off either your client or your employees and are very internally focused, that's a recipe for failure,” says Zallie. Inside the ice house A podcast hosted by the parent company of the New York Stock Exchange.

Zallie's $8.7 billion company is also employing AI-like technologies to predict supply chain issues, improve recipe development, and keep up with regulations.

When some companies like Meta and Target roll back their DEI initiatives, Ingredion still includes “Everybody Belling” as one of its five core values. And while serving as CEO is the dream role of most business leaders, he said in reality he is looking at his job as the best and clear manager who is doing more work, and why and why.

“With leadership and management positions, we are responsible and accountable to (employees) and we try to keep track of how they can build their careers and motivate them,” he said. “I see my job as CEO as the Chief Clarity Officer.”

Discussions about AI's Future Furiousness

Ingredion has made it clear that people are their priorities, but he is confident that other companies can do more with fewer people.

“There will be fewer people doing some of the jobs that are being done today and more people doing other types of work. Microsoft is already doing this by laying off 15,000 employees this year alone. And while the company cited the change as a way to “set the best positions for the company and team to succeed in the dynamic marketplace,” cuts suggest automation prioritization. Last year, AI reports that it saved $500 million from call centres alone Bloomberg.

Also, while some CEOs like Salesforce's Marc Benioff and Google's Sundar Pichai have promoted some of their AI automation as Flex, the worker exchange has made many people, such as software engineers, feel helpless.
