It was a tough week at Microsoft. Find comfort at Microsoft Copilot following news that an Xbox executive at the company has offered some suspicious advice to people going out.
Executive Producer of Xbox Game Studios Publishing, Matt Turnbull, apparently not losing his job recently, went to LinkedIn and informed people that “you're not alone, you don't have to go alone.” In the same breath that AI admits to evoking “strong emotions in people,” Turnbull suggested that LLMs like ChatGpt and Copilot “help reduce the emotional and cognitive load associated with unemployment.”
Turnbull continued to provide certain AI prompts that he recommended to those who were recently laid off, including writing a warm intro message to reach out to someone at. [studio name] He explained how LLM can help overwhelming developers in planning their careers, punching their resumes and supporting “emotional clarity and confidence.”
This post was distributed by Necrosoft Games director and host Brandon Sheffield and received a predictable negative response. According to Video Game Chronicle, LinkedIn users were equally unimpressed. Turnbull deleted the post a few hours later. Here is the full text of the LinkedIn post:
Turnbull's post comes, however, very seriously, when Microsoft appears to be all-in on both AI and layoffs. This week's 9,000 unemployment is on the rise. Microsoft President Brad Smith began 2025 with a commitment to spending around $80 billion on AI infrastructure throughout the year, and CEO Satya Nadella recently shared a share currently written by AI.
