Chinese tech company Baidu has announced MuseSteamer, a video generation tool powered by new artificial intelligence, with a major update to its core search engine, in an attempt to maintain the relevance of its increasingly crowded AI landscape.
The newly launched MuseSteamer model allows users to create short video clips up to 10 seconds long from still images. Available in three variations: Turbo, Pro and Light, each tuned to a different level of performance and processing power. However, unlike its competitors who offer consumer tools, Baidu's model currently has no immediate plans for public versions.
This release is as global and Chinese companies continue to shift their focus from conversational AI to more complex media generation models. In China, Baidu has joined a growing list of companies such as Bytedance, Tencent and Alibaba, which have introduced its own AI-driven video tool.
In addition to the video generator, Baidu has overhauled its search engine interface. The updated platform allows longer and more complex search inputs, consolidating audio and image-based queries. Search results are curated using Baidu's proprietary AI technology to deliver more refined content.
The company is under pressure from domestic rivals, with Bytedance's Doubao and Tencent's Yuanbao AI chatbot gaining popularity. Baidu's latest move suggests a strategic pivot aimed at dealing with both technological changes and competitive threats within China's rapidly evolving AI sector.
Earlier this year, Baidu announced the release of two new AI (AI) models. The Chinese technology giant introduced the Ernie 4.5, a basic model based on its predecessor, and the Ernie X1, an AI focused on inference designed for deep thinking. In particular, Baidu created an AI-powered chatbot, Ernie Bot, for free to users, eliminating premium fees.
In an official statement, Baidu confirmed that Arnie 4.5 is now accessible via the Chatbot platform.
