The Union Ministry of Information and Broadcasting has launched the Wavex Startup Challenge 2025, inviting startups across the country to join National Hackathon to develop an AI-driven multilingual translation solution called “Bhashasetu.”

“The challenge aims to encourage the development of innovative artificial intelligence tools that allow for real-time translation, transliteration and speech localization across at least 12 major Indian languages. The initiative is seeking to develop comprehensive, accessible, emotionally-remembered communication techniques on Monday,” the ministry said.

This challenge does not have minimal eligibility criteria and can be applied to startups at any stage of development. “Startups recommend building scalable and cost-effective solutions using open source or low-cost AI models. However, proprietary solutions may also be proposed.

Winners will receive incubation support under Wavex accelerators, including mentorship, workspaces, and development support until the final product is completed and deployed.

Registration for the challenge will be open from June 30th to July 22nd.
