In a recent session at Amritsar, Dr. Bhatia explained how models like ChatGPT are first “trained on a large dataset and “fine-tuning” tasks such as disease diagnosis and processing taxes.

This local focus – educating Punjabi students about AI – shows how India is preparing to prepare for this change. In India, a Bain & Company survey found that by 2027, more than 2.3 million AI-related job openings have been opened. Globally, another analysis suggests that by 2030, almost 30% of today's working hours can be automated for AI. Importantly, however, most predictions show generative AI enhancements rather than eliminating carriers.

For example, McKinsey points out that AI “doesn't completely eliminate a significant number of jobs, but enhances the way STEM, creative and business professionals work.” In fact, AI expertise can be a ticket to higher wages. One study found that Indian experts with AI skills had salaries increased by 54%.

One of the most powerful benefits of Genai is in learning and teaching. At Amritsar and others, educators are already finding ways to use AI to help students. For example, Dr. Bhatia shows students how AI tools can answer questions, provide practice, and even create study materials.

The research in applied linguistics states that “generative AI is reconstructing many fields including second language education,” and that it helps people practice feedback instantly through chatbots and tutors that help people to instantly give and practice English, Punjabi or other languages. Imagine a young Punjabi student using an AI tutor to improve English grammar or write essays. Technology can adapt and provide guidance to the learner's level.

In schools and universities, AI can also help teachers personalize lessons. In the local context, organizations like the DAV College in Amritsar have already held workshops on AI for both teachers and students. These efforts emphasize in the classroom that AI is not a threat, but a tool for creativity. Adapting teachers can provide a more interactive and customized learning experience and reach all kinds of learners.

Healthcare is another area where generative AI promises great benefits. AI chatbots and models assist physicians by summarizing patient records, suggesting diagnoses, and drafting treatment plans.
