Popular AI image platform Midjourney released a new AI-Video generator on Wednesday. The new V1 video model allows you to create 5-second AI videos from images created on the platform or upload. Founder David Holtz unveiled the video model in a blog post.

This generator can compete with other generated video options at some point, such as Openai's Sora or Google's Flow. Midjourney V1 subscriptions start at $10 per month with 3.3 hours of “fast” GPU hours. According to Holz, a “video job” consists of four 5-second images, which costs about eight times the cost of an image.
Midjourney is more affordable than Openai's SORA $20 or $200 subscription, with a monthly price of $20 for Google's flows or $249 for Super Tier.
More features in the future could potentially increase costs. In a post, Holz said the company will monitor how it uses the V1 and adjust its pricing later.
How to Use Midjourney's New AI Video Generator
For now, VIs are only available on the website. If you are using Midjourney via Discord, log in using the “Continue with Discord” option. To start your first video, you only need the images you uploaded or in the photo gallery. It acts as a “start frame.”
Animated image button will appear. The Auto or Default option moves images, while the Manual option allows you to enter a text prompt for how you want to move.
Next, there are low-motion or high-motion options. According to Holz's blog post, low videos are suitable for surrounding scenes where only the subject is moving.
High-motion settings allow both the subject and the camera to move. This setting can create unrealistic or glitchy movements. You can extend Midjourney videos from 4 seconds to 4 times, expanding a total of 21 seconds of video. This tool generates videos at 480p resolution.
Midjourney faces lawsuits from Disney and Universal for copyright infringement after allegedly failing to take precautions to prevent people from using copyrighted characters. Midjourney has not issued an official statement regarding the lawsuit.
