New York (CNN) – Amazon warns its employees that artificial intelligence will help companies have less workforce in the future.

Previously submitted in Tuesday's blog post Amazon CEO Andy Jassy said that for employees, the increased efficiency from AI will ultimately help the company reduce the human labor force.

“As we deploy more generative AI and agents, we should change the way we work. Fewer people do some of the work that is being done today, and more people do other kinds of work,” he writes.

“It's difficult to know exactly where this will go online over time, but we expect that over the next few years this will lead to a decline in the total workforce of companies as it will provide greater efficiency across the enterprise,” he continued.

Al doesn't affect changes on Amazon, Jassy said. AI “changes how we all work and live.” Includes “billions” of AI agents “in every company and every field you can imagine”. But much of this remains speculative.

“Many of these agents have not been built yet, but they're definitely coming and coming quickly,” Jassy said.

He urged employees to look at AI “We can call at different stages of work. It will be smarter and more useful with more experience.”

Jassy's message follows an increasingly caveat within the tech industry over the impact of AI on white-collar jobs.

In May, humanity CEO Dario Amodei warned of CNN that the technology would surge unemployment faster than unprepared political leaders and businesses would expect. He said AI can eliminate half of entry-level white-collar jobs, including tools that humanity itself is building, and can raise unemployment rates to 20% over the next 1-5 years.

Critics say these warnings are not based on much research or evidence, but come from people who are most poised to benefit from AI adoption.
