OpenAi has been releasing a steady stream of videos created through its proprietary artificial intelligence text video generator Sora.
Sora is said to be able to create videos of up to 1 minute in length, but the videos released so far have mainly been between 10 and 25 seconds. The subjects of these videos range from historical footage to paper airplanes in the forest, but luckily some of them also include plenty of cute animals.
We decided to take a look at the latter group of clips to see how far this AI video generator has come, which is not yet publicly available. Here are 7 of the best Sora videos featuring animals.
1. City dog
In this first clip, a Samoyed and a Golden Retriever live life in the big city. Sora created two realistic dogs running around a neon-lit city.
At first glance, the video looks pretty decent, but after a few plays you'll start to notice things like the dog not blinking.
2. The hunting cat
Things get a little more exciting in this video, made with fairly detailed prompts.
The prompt is about a white and orange cat running around the garden, set in a warm-toned, cinematic image, and tells you what the cat should do, what kind of lighting to use, It also included details on how the camera angle should be.
3. Woolly mammoth
Sora turned back the clock 10,000 years and imagined a herd of woolly mammoths approaching.
The setting is a snow-covered steppe, with snow-capped mountains rising behind the giant animal. It's especially interesting to see how the mammoth's feet interact with the snow on the ground.
Unfortunately, this clip cuts just before we can truly get a close-up view of the entire interaction.
4. Painting feet
It's another dog! However, this person's eyes are more lively. Here, Sora was asked to generate a mini-Aussie that would draw a picture of his favorite toy.
The result is a dog in a striped T-shirt and beret holding a brush between his teeth. Although the dog hasn't brushed her strokes, the texture, lighting, and movement all work together beautifully.
5. A curious chameleon
Another impressive Sora video features a chameleon perched on a branch. The prompt asks the AI video generator to showcase the animal's ability to change color, but it doesn't actually do much of that.
Nevertheless, there is a feeling of watching a clip from a nature documentary, and you can feel the scales of a chameleon.
6.Rabbit
Can Sora create videos that make us go “wow”? Yes, yes, he can. OpenAI's text-to-video generator was prompted to create a family of cute rabbits eating dinner in their burrow, and Sora did not disappoint.
Four rabbits have been created that happily eat vegetables. One of which he appears to be spawning on his six legs, but I would have gladly missed it if the video had been longer so I could enjoy the bunny to the fullest.
7. Hybrid animals
This is a bit of a bonus, but it's interesting that we can use Sora to bring our imaginations to life.
Created in collaboration with AI artist Don Allen Stevenson, the clip features a giraffe flamingo, a horsefly, and a crow, each a hybrid of two animals.
It would be a very nightmarish experience, but Sora was able to fuse the animals together and make them move in a plausible way.
What's next?
These seven Sora videos featuring animals will give you a sense of what colors, textures, and camera movements can be played with using AI. However, you may have noticed that a key element of most of the videos released by OpenAI are missing associated audio.
Of the videos listed above, the only one that matches the sound and visuals is the one featuring the hybrid animal (probably still in post-production).
This will help you understand the complexities of creating AI video from prompt to screen, but it will also be interesting to see how OpenAI approaches this problem.
Will we release an AI video creator that can generate silent stock footage and leave the audio up to the user? Or will we wait until the complete package is released? We should find out later this year.
