According to Visa, 47% of Americans are using artificial intelligence tools to shop this holiday season.
The most common uses for AI tools include finding gift ideas (21%), doing product research (16%), using AI-powered search for shopping (15%), and trying on products online using virtual fitting rooms and other tools, the company said in an article posted on Tuesday (Dec. 2).
Shoppers are incorporating AI into their daily lives, but they have some concerns about the technology. Visa said in a press release on Tuesday that 61% of those surveyed said they prefer human interaction in customer service, and 60% want a deeper understanding of how AI-powered shopping tools use data.
“This data tells an interesting story about the changes in spending we’re seeing,” said Bruce Cundiff, Vice President of Consumer Insights at Visa, in a release. “Shoppers are embracing AI and digital tools at an impressive rate, with nearly half of Americans now using AI to enhance their shopping experience.”
The PYMNTS Intelligence report, “Black Friday Shopping Trends Reveals Shift to Budget-Focused Purchasing,” found that 50% of consumers used generative AI at least once in their Black Friday purchase this year.
The study found that shoppers most commonly use AI assistants to find discount codes and deals (42%), track prices or monitor markdowns (35%), research and compare product options (31%), create gift ideas (30%), and understand product specifications and features (28%).
