Zambia promotes responsible use of AI in radio broadcasting

Applications of AI

Radio stations in Zambia have been asked to ensure the responsible and ethical use of artificial intelligence (AI) in their operations, the country’s broadcasting regulator announced on Friday.

In a message to mark World Radio Day, Independent Broadcasting Authority Director General Webster Malido said that while AI offers an opportunity to improve efficiency and drive innovation, it must remain a supporting tool and not replace human editorial judgment or accountability., News.AZ reporting, quotation Reuters.

This year’s commemorative ceremony will be held under the theme of “Radio Waves and Artificial Intelligence.”

Marido noted that emerging technologies are increasingly shaping content production, programming and audience management in the broadcast industry.

He called on broadcasters to establish clear internal policies and editorial guidelines to protect accuracy, reliability and public trust, and ensure that AI is used responsibly and ethically, while protecting viewers from misinformation and content manipulation.

Mr. Marido reaffirmed the regulator’s commitment to reviewing the regulatory framework and engaging stakeholders to ensure that broadcasting standards keep pace with technological developments, while maintaining a balance between innovation and responsibility.
