YouTube tests AI-powered dubbing tool for video translation – Tech

YouTube is currently testing a new tool that uses artificial intelligence (AI) to translate and dub creators’ videos. This tool aims to help YouTubers reach a wider audience by providing multilingual support.

The AI-powered dubbing tool is being developed in collaboration with Aloud, an AI dubbing company affiliated with Google’s Area 120 startup incubator.

Here’s how it works

Aloud will first transcribe the video content on behalf of the creator, allowing the creator to make any necessary edits. Once the transcription is approved, Aloud will produce the dubbing for the AI-generated video.

Aloud currently offers this service for free on another website, but YouTube has integrated the tool into their platform.

However, this feature is currently in testing and is only available to a group of creators on the waitlist. A spokeswoman said YouTube is already running a trial with “hundreds” of creators.

It’s important to note that Aloud has some limitations, as explained in the website’s FAQ section. Currently, the AI-powered tool only works with English videos and supports dubbing into Spanish and Portuguese.

Nevertheless, given Google’s support and partnership with YouTube, Aloud may expand its language options in the future.

This new tool is the second major feature related to multilingual dubbing introduced by YouTube this year. In February, the platform allowed creators to upload multiple audio tracks of their videos categorized by language.

By working with Aloud to develop AI-powered dubbing, YouTube aims to help YouTubers save time and money, while growing their audience.
