YouTube releases AI avatars to target low-quality content

YouTube launches AI tools for creators to tackle low-quality content.

Video platform YouTube is rolling out new AI-based tools for creators to help tackle low-quality content. This was announced by the company’s CEO Neil Mohan.

Users can create short videos using digital avatars, generate games from text descriptions, and try out songs.

“Throughout this evolution, AI will continue to be a tool for self-expression, not a replacement for creators,” the platform’s CEO stressed.

Integrating artificial intelligence into Shorts has become a key priority for the YouTube team.

YouTube already implemented a special version of its Veo 3 video generator in September, adding new remix tools and AI-powered editing. Prior to this, the platform also introduced the ability to convert images into 6-second clips.

User protection

YouTube will introduce labeling of content created using in-house AI tools. Creators must disclose their use of neural networks.

At the same time, YouTube is updating its Content ID system. New algorithms will allow artists and rights holders to track and control the use of their likeness and voice within the videos they produce.

“As a systemic measure, we support important legislative initiatives, including: counterfeit lawto protect creative integrity in the digital age,” Mohan added.

Fight against low quality content

The priority strategy is to combat AI slop (low-quality digital content generated by artificial intelligence at scale).

“As an open platform, we support a wide range of free expression, but we also strive to ensure YouTube remains a place where people have fun,” the platform’s chief said.

In this direction, YouTube is developing “a proven system that successfully combats spam and clickbait and reduces the spread of repetitive videos.”

According to Mohan, artificial intelligence should be the bridge “between curiosity and deep understanding.”

The platform is already actively leveraging technology to improve the accessibility of video content. In December, more than 6 million users watched videos with auto-dubbing for at least 10 minutes every day.

Back in December, video hosting opened up the opportunity for content creators to receive payments in the stablecoin PYUSD.
