The creation of video descriptions using AI is only valid for a small number of English-language videos and is available to a limited group of users. Text summaries appear on YouTube’s search and watch pages, providing a quick overview of what’s happening in the recording without replacing the description left by the channel author.

“We’re starting to test AI-generated summaries on YouTube to make it easier for you to read a video’s brief description and decide if it’s right for you.”, says the support page. To participate in testing experimental features, users are invited to advance to register in the respective YouTube program, for some innovations a paid YouTube Premium subscription is also required.

Earlier it became known that a similar function was launched in the YouTube shorts section: the Flamingo neural network analyzes short videos and compiles descriptions for them, which are stored as metadata – they are not displayed to users, but help with indexing of videos for search.
